Detective Byomkesh Bakshy is a 2015 Bengali detective-mystery film directed by Suman Ghosh and produced by Deva Katta. It stars Sushant Singh Rajput as the eponymous detective, alongside Swastika Mukherjee, Shubhankar Bhattacharya, Mimi Chakraborty. The movie premiered at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival The film is scheduled for general release on 19 December 2015 in India The story of Detective Byomkesh Bakshy revolves around a murder mystery featuring two murder suspects—Dr. Anagarika Dutt and Dr. Debi Choudhury—whose lives were intertwined in the past, possibly because of the death of Dutt's brother. The victim, Dr. Rajiv Kumar Ghosh, was murdered at his residence by a man in a black cloak. Among the suspects are two doctors who had come to know each other in Paris prior to 1922 when Dutt's brother was murdered. Another suspect is Bhai Mohan, a man with an artificial leg who is being blackmailed for embezzling hospital funds which he used to find his long-lost mother. The trailer of this film was launched on YouTube a day before its commencement. The movie was telecasted on various other channels including Star Plus, Imagine TV & Life OK. It also premiered in UK on 13 December 2015 on BBC One which led to a series of controversies about censorship over sensitive scenes in the movie. The film made a gross of 210 million in the opening weekend. It was declared a flop after few days. The film had a business of just 4.75 crore in its seventh week at the domestic box office though it was declared an average grosser at the box office domestically, although it was a big hit overseas.
