This is a movie about the struggle of two people who love each other and how they get through difficult times. Ugly Aur Pagli is the story about a very ordinary man called Ajay (Riteish Deshmukh) who has nothing special about him. One day he meets Neha (Isha Koppikar), who is beautiful and educated and perhaps the complete opposite of Ajay. They become very close friends and eventually Neha falls in love with Ajay. Ajay loves her back but feels that their love would never work out because he can't give her all of his time, which she deserves. He loves her but knows she deserves better than him, so after much thought he ends their friendship. Neha's heart is broken and she thinks that Ajay does not love her, although he actually does. Time passes by. Ajay gets into problems with people who are after him for money (he borrowed it from them and was supposed to pay them back). The situation goes out of control and he has no choice but to leave his home. When he goes, his family has no idea where he has gone to or what he is thinking, as the only person who knew about the money was Neha. His family never realises that there was a connection between the two things. Ajay ends up in jail because of all the trouble that's happened. While in jail, he thinks about the things that have happened in his life and a lot of what he has done wrong. He is a changed man. He vows to himself to be a better person and change his ways, but he can't do it from behind bars. In jail Ajay meets many people who have been put in jail for many years because they have never been able to pay back the money they owe. During this time Ajay understands the situation and learns from all the mistakes he has made in his life so far. He uses this new knowledge to plan how he will change all the bad things that have happened in his life into good ones. He thinks about the people he loves and vows to excel in life and pay all the people back, and be successful. He then meets a man who has been in jail for many years. They become very good friends and Ajay learns a lot from him. Ajay also does many things to help the man, as this is his way of repaying him for all the help he has given him. After 10 years, Ajay is now out of jail and everyone is very happy to see him. He now has a new name (Amit) and he's also changed his look (he's got a different haircut and wears glasses).
